Cozy Devotional - A Heart in Bloom

"A Heart in Bloom" — at Honey Bee’s Book Nook

The bell above the door of Honey Bee’s Book Nook jingled its usual cheery greeting as Kit Carlyle stepped inside, arms cradling a box of freshly baked muffins. The warm scent of vanilla, strawberry jam, and lemon zest wrapped around her like a memory.

Honey Barnes, in her signature flowing kimono and bare feet (despite the chill of spring mornings), grinned as she peeked over a stack of book donations.

“Tell me those are the new thumbprint muffins.”

Kit laughed. “Jammy Heart Muffins, officially. I tried a lemon shortbread base this time. They’re a tribute to Mom — soft and bright, with a little well of sweetness in the middle.”

As they arranged the muffins on the vintage cake stand, Huck Henderson swept in, dapper in a velvet waistcoat, holding a Regency novel dramatically to his chest.

“Your muffins are the talk of Maplewood. I daresay you’ve outdone yourself, Miss Carlyle,” he said, bowing with exaggerated flair.

Kit gave him a half-curtsy. “The Dowager Countess of Strawberry Lane would be proud.”

Later, after the morning bustle settled into a cozy lull, Kit tucked herself in a reading nook near the window. The morning light spilled across the pages of her open journal. She’d written one line at the top: Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

She thought of her walk that morning — how the birdsong had felt like prayer, how the smile from the little girl at the corner had warmed something inside her.

Her mom used to say that life didn’t have to be loud to be meaningful. “Keep your heart clear and soft,” she’d say while kneading pie dough. “It’s the open hearts that see God everywhere.”

Kit underlined the verse again.

Maybe today, seeing God looked like sharing a muffin made with love. Maybe it meant being present. Quiet. Honest. Willing.

She closed her journal, heart full.

And just like that — she could see Him everywhere.
